Ostara - Equinox

Numerous sources identify today's date, the beginning of the (old) summer, as the actual Ostara festival. From today onwards, the days are longer than the nights; the sun, and therefore warmth and a prerequisite for life and growth, has triumphed over the cold and darkness - mythologically incorporated into the sagas in the form of the frost giants. Hence the old name SIGRBLÓT. Reason enough for our Nordic ancestors to celebrate this event as a festival of joy. Life returns in all its splendour and with all its might. The time of proverbial fertility - which not only affects the plant world - arrives. "Spring fever" - an old popular expression - is spreading everywhere... Easter eggs and the Easter bunny, pagan symbols of fertility and lust for life, have become popular customs that have resisted any Christianisation. A blue egg is dedicated to Hel and brings bad luck, red eggs are dedicated to Thor and bring good luck, while yellow eggs are dedicated to Ostara - the spring goddess and manifestation of FREYA, the goddess of love and fertility - herself. Another custom that is still alive today are the regionally widespread Easter bonfires. With their warming power, they symbolise the return of the sun and its victory over the dark times. We hope and wish that we can make a contribution with such texts to strengthen or rediscover the connection to our very own roots. We wish all those who welcome spring according to the old custom a joyful celebration today!
